Looking for a cheap, compact and sleek printer that can print, copy and scan? The HP DeskJet 3720 might just be for you. Check out Toner City’s review below as we cut through the printing noise and get to the important information that guides your decisions.
Size and aesthetics
The first thing that customers will notice about the HP DeskJet 3720 is its small size. It quite tiny, infact. This model is so compact that it was rated as being the smallest printer on the market when first released, which is good news for anyone looking to set it up in a room that struggles for space. As for its exact dimensions, the HP DeskJet 3720 has a height of 141mm, a depth of 177mm and a width of 403mm. Heaviness also comes into the equation, as it weighs in at a meager 2.33kg, making it one of the lightest printers in the world. Looking at this model is no chore either, thanks to a crisp blue on white colour scheme which is a step away from traditional greys and black. Visually speaking, the HP DeskJet 3720 is one neat little package and it’s not hard to see why.
Price tag
Customers will most likely be drawn to the price tag next. Why? Because it’s so low. The HP DeskJet 3720 can be purchased for $79 which is definitely at the bottom end of the cost spectrum. There’s even the possibility that you can snap it up for even less by hunting online for deals and special offers. While a low price usually points to a compromise in quality, this isn’t entirely true for the HP DeskJet 3720.
Performance and results
There’s no lacking in performance when it comes to printing quality thanks to HP Thermal Inkjet Technology, however speed is one area that could be improved. Other than that, issues can occur with scanning which can be linked to the model’s small size. This makes sense when you understand HP’s decision to do away with the flatbed scanner in favour of a feedthrough alternative to allow for the compact design. The down side? Pages can come out askew and black bands of ink will sometimes appear at the top of documents. This is bad news for the presentation of your document and your ink supply. Finally, you can connect to your HP DeskJet 3720 using an ethernet plug-in or your wifi, the latter being the best pick because it means you can avoid the mess of cords running through your office space.
Ink supply
As for ink, this model of printer uses HP 65 65XL cartridges that offer plenty of black and colour printing. These tri-colour cartridges contain cyan, yellow and magenta inks that come with a process of adjusting how much of each is used to ensure that overall consumption is as consistent as possible.
Our verdict
The HP DeskJet 3720 looks great on a desk and won’t take up too much valuable space. It produces high quality results and comes at a super cheap price. As for the cons, it’s not a quick machine and doesn’t have the ability to print pictures directly from a digital camera. The scanning functionality could also be improved. Overall, this device provides plenty of bang for buck and is a smart investment if you are looking for a lower end printer.
