How To Solve Common Ink Cartridge Problems

If you’re having trouble with your printer, the ink cartridge may be what’s causing the problem. Let’s delve into the possible issues you may be having and how to fix it.

Wrong coloured printing

There may be two reasons that your prints are coming out in the wrong colour, either the cartridge print head is blocked or obstructed, or the breather tape hasn’t been removed before fitting. What you can do is ensure that the cartridge is placed in the correct position. You can tell which colours have been blocked by printing out a test page.

Vertical lines showing up on printing

This issue indicates a problem with the ink drum. If there are lines in the middle of the page, the drum is probably scratched whereas lines on the edge mean the drum is worn. You can resolve the first issue by replacing your ink and the second issue by replacing the drum.

White horizontal lines on printing

If white horizontal lines are appearing on your printing, this indicates an issue with the print head. It is most likely because you aren’t using your printer often enough so the ink has dried on the print head. To prevent this problem in the future, you can print something every couple of days to ensure it runs smoothly.

Problems with ink level detection

When replacing your printer ink cartridge, it is best to do so when your printer actually tells you to and while it is on. To fix ink detection problems, you can try turning off your printer for 30 minutes to reset its memory.

Wrong ink cartridge installed

Your printer may reject your ink cartridge due to region locking. Fix this by cleaning the microchip and terminals with a cotton tip and ensure it’s loaded into the printer correctly.

Ink leaking into printer

When you encounter leaking ink in your printer, this may be the result of using cheap, poorly made compatible cartridges. By purchasing reputable brands you can avoid leaky cartridges.

Ink cartridge not recognised

Sometimes printers will detect that you are using compatible ink cartridges, this will require you to switch back to using the original genuine ink cartridge.
