Printers can seem tricky at times, but generally speaking the solutions are all fairly straightforward once you know what to look for. We love Brother printers, but a quick search online will show you that there is one common problem that virtually all Brother laser printer owners run into at one point or another.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re talking of course about the \u2018Low Toner\u2019 notification that can sometimes crop up even when you know for a fact that there\u2019s plenty of toner in the cartridge. It\u2019s a common bug, but absolutely not a problem that you have to just put up with! All you\u2019ve got to do is reset your Brother printer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why does the low toner message keep appearing?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The low toner notification is there to cue you when your cartridges are actually running low and soon need to be replaced. But it\u2019s not a perfect system, and it\u2019s not uncommon that the notification crops up when it isn\u2019t needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The low toner notification can persist in cases where it never cleared. By that, we mean that you got the notification that the toner was low in one or more cartridges, replaced those cartridges, and did so without turning the printer off. Your Brother printer might not have had a chance to do a new check and is persisting because it isn\u2019t doing that check unprompted itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

In cases like these, it\u2019s often enough to just turn your printer off and unplug it from the wall. Once you\u2019ve waited about twenty minutes, you can turn your printer back on. You should find that your Brother printer has done a new check while it powered up, and the low toner notification should be gone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I reset my Brother printer?<\/b><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019ve tried switching it off and on again (the easiest fix for just about any technology) then it might be time for a hard reset of your Brother printer. The process isn\u2019t all hard, just follow these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Go to \u2018Menu\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. From there, go to \u2018Initial Setup\u2019, and then press OK.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Press or tap \u2018Reset\u2019, and then press \u2018OK\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Select the type of\u00a0reset\u00a0you want, and then press \u2018OK\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Your Brother printer should reset itself and resolve any problems that might have led to an incorrect low toner notification. Good as new!<\/span><\/p>\n
