What is a Default Printer?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Your default printer is the one that your computer sends a document to automatically when you hit the print button. Unless you tell it otherwise, this default printer will handle every print job you send its way without the added steps of having to search for and select your printer each time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even if you only have one printer in your home or office, setting a default printer can remove the frustration of clicking through and specifying every detail each time you want something printed. Look on below for a step by step breakdown of how to set your default printer on either Windows or Mac.<\/span><\/p>\n

Set a Default Printer on Windows<\/b><\/h2>\n

  1. First thing\u2019s first, click the Windows logo down the bottom left of your home screen to open up the Start Menu.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Here you\u2019ll see something called the \u2018Control Panel\u2019. Click on \u2018Control Panel\u2019 to find a further menu that will have an option called \u2018Devices and Printers\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. \u2018Devices and Printers\u2019 will show you any printers that your computer has interacted with.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Look here for the printer that you want to set as your default printer. Right-click to open a menu that will give you the option of \u2018Set as Default Printer\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Click that and you\u2019re done!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Set a Default Printer on Mac<\/b><\/h2>\n

    If you use a Macintosh or Apple computer, the process is very similar.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. First, you\u2019ll want to find the Apple Menu. You can access this by clicking on the little Apple logo in the top left of your screen.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. In that menu, you\u2019ll see a \u2018System Preferences\u2019 option. Click on that to open up the menu of \u2018System Preferences\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. In this menu, you\u2019ll be able to find an image of a printer with the label \u2018Printers & Scanners\u2019 just below it. Click on this to open a menu that will show you any printers your computer has interacted with.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Locate your preferred default printer in this list.<\/span><\/li>\n
